Plus Size Satin & Silk Teddies

Plus size satin and silk teddies are the smooth, glossy side of lingerie: charmeuse and stretch satin with lace cups, thin straps and soft drape, many from Magic Silk, cut for Queen, XL/2XL and 3X/4X. Satin stretches less than lace, so size by bust and hips exactly as the chart says. Everything ships in plain packaging with no indication of the contents or the sender.

Plus Size Satin & Silk Teddies buying guide

This page lists every plus-size satin and silk-look teddy we stock, from lace-cupped charmeuse to stretch satin bodysuits. The products above are the whole range. The sections below explain the difference between the fabrics and how to choose a satin piece that drapes rather than strains, written from the questions customers ask us most.

Sizing and fit

Plus sizes are labelled three ways in this range: Queen or 1X/2X, XL/2XL, and 3X/4X. They are not interchangeable between makers, so measure your bust at the fullest point, your natural waist and your hips at the widest point, and match all three against the chart on the product rather than the letter on the label.

A teddy runs from shoulder to crotch, so torso length matters as much as width. If you are long in the body, or between sizes, go up: a teddy that is too short pulls at the shoulders and cuts in at the crotch however well it fits at the bust. Woven satin has little give, so if you are between sizes go up; the fabric will drape and look better than a piece that is tight.

Materials and what they demand

Most lingerie satin is polyester charmeuse, which has the look of silk and is easier to care for. Stretch satin adds spandex so it moves with you. Real silk is rarer, softer and more delicate.

Satin shows creases and every line underneath it. Lace cups and trims give shape and texture; plain satin relies on fit.

Care that preserves it

Hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent, press the water out in a towel rather than wringing, and dry flat or over a rail away from direct heat. Fasten every hook before washing so it cannot snag, and never tumble dry: heat is what kills elastic.

Iron satin on the lowest setting, inside out, or hang it in a steamy bathroom to drop the creases.

Frequently asked questions about plus size satin and silk teddies

Is it real silk? Most pieces are satin, which looks like silk. Where a teddy is real silk, the description says so.

Will satin cling? It drapes. Stretch satin follows the body more closely than woven satin.

Does satin stretch? Woven satin barely stretches; stretch satin does. Size accordingly.

Is satin warm? It feels cool at first and warms to the body. It is a good choice in any season.

Common mistakes when buying plus size satin and silk teddies

Sizing down in satin. A woven fabric that is too small pulls at every seam.

Tumble drying. Heat dulls the sheen and shrinks the elastic.
