What it is
A stainless steel anal speculum is a medical play instrument that does exactly what the clinical original does: it goes in closed, opens on a threaded screw, and stays open on its own. That last part is the point. Once it is set, both of your hands are free, and what has been opened stays open and visible for as long as you choose to leave it.
Steel is the right material for this. It is non-porous, so nothing soaks into it and nothing lives in it; it can be sterilised by boiling; and it takes on temperature, which is a whole additional sensation if you warm it in water or chill it first. It also has weight and a cold, unmistakable feel that plastic does not manage — a large part of why medical play works at all is that the equipment feels like equipment.
Go slowly and generously. Use plenty of a thick water-based lubricant, warm the steel to body temperature before insertion, and open the screw a turn at a time rather than in one movement. This is advanced anal play; work up to it with smaller toys first, and never open it faster than the person receiving it says is comfortable. Waterproof and easy to clean.
